What is that video with the bad guy or spy guy? A naked gal pulls a gun on him. Three dancing Nazis torture him? This is the video is age restricted, so you may have to click through to watch it, provided you can get by YouTube's laughably, ridiculously easy, age verification (SouthPark showed you how back in 1999 before there was a Youtube, here is the YouTube video). Anyway, this is the video you're probably thinking of: Dutch rock band, Golden Earring's Twilight Zone, directed by Dick Maas (THE LIFT, DOWN, THE SHAFT). This is one of the greatest music videos of all time and for good reason. Cinematic, sharp editing, a solid story and - amazingly - characters and visuals that make sense to both the song and the video. When the video transitions from its own "reality" to the main protagonist's hallucination, we are right there and never lost for a second. And the entire thing takes place within the song: no prologue or epilogue required. Video creator, Dick Maas proved his genius with the short film in a way he's never been able to recreate in a feature film. In the last 30 plus years, few music video directors are capable of achieving such brilliance and fewer still even try. I wish a high definition version of this existed on the web, but here we are. An interview with Director Dick Maas. Official website of Golden Earring. Official website of Dick Maas. This specific song has its own page at Wikipedia.
