SATAN RETURNS FOR 2006
It's the Graphic story collection that just won't die! Perhaps it's because of the sick and twisted tales of writer Robert Steven Rhine, who made this tribute to his old and beloved E.C. comics from the 1950s. Perhaps its because of the outstanding crew of the top comic artists in the world that Rhine got to illustrate the interior and covers. One thing it damn sure ain't, is the Forward that yours truly, Feo Amante, wrote for the comic.

Whatever is the driving impetus behind Robert Steve Rhine's SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL, this thing is big and still getting coverage in International magazines. Look for the April 2006 issue of TOTAL GUITAR magazine and their coverage of SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL, as well as Robert's other operation, GirlsandCorpses.

THE HORROR CHANNEL REVIEW
It's the new year and D.W. Bostaph Jr. reviews R.S. Rhine's SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL.

Horror lends itself well to quick cutting tales that can be spun out in a mere moment's notice. From campfire tales to the ever popular short story format, a good scare can be set up and delivered within no time, and we all live for that brief burst of bloody bumps in the night. This roller coaster is always one we are ready and willing to jump onto at a second's notice.

In the end it all plays like a joke: the setup, the build-up, and the payoff. Maybe that's why humor plays so well with horror; the two have a cocaine-like addiction to timing. You need to have just the right set of circumstances to get the proper payoff. Fortunately for us, the humor that mixes with horror is most oft the sickest type imaginable.

Author Robert Steven Rhine is a sick man. He is the guy your mother ...

SATAN'S SWAN SONG
Meltdown Comics was our swan song for SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL -- the last group signing for 2005, maybe forever. Jim Smith (co-creator "Ren & Stimpy") and his band Freehead rocked the night. Our artists: Frank Forte, Tone Rodriguez, David Hartman, Bryan Baugh, D.W. Frydendall, Mark Covell and Jacob Hair dropped by to sign the book. Also, our pal Jazan Wild was there signing his new comic book "Carnival of Souls" and his rock CD of the same title. Eric Pigors was nursing the flu and he was missed.

It has been an INSANE year: Fangoria, Comic-Con, Batsday, Dark Delicacies, Borderlands Books (SF), Rosemary's Billygoat, CIA, Fright Night, NecroComic-Con, Golden Apple, West Hollywood Book Fair, Meltdown Comics and Wax Poetic. Also, radio and TV shows. Whew... what a year. Frank Forte even got married! Who would have thunk?

I want to thank all our amazing artists who participated at our many signings: My partner Frank Forte, Jim Smith and his band Freehead who played at two venues, D.W. Frydendall, Mike Sosnowski, Eric Pigors, Alex Pardee, William Stout, Frank Dietz, Tim Vigil, Kevin Colden, Mark Covell, Joe Vigil, Tone Rodriguez, Bryan Baugh, David Hartman, Jacob Hair, John Howard, Jazan Wild, Kevin Klemm, Brett Barris, model Melissa Carnett and, of course, Feo Amante, who set all this insanity in motion and has done a tremendous job with this killer website. I also know there were a lot of artists who are out of the country who were here in sprit. Also, Del and Sue of Dark Delicacies Bookstore were extremely helpful throughout this year and I owe them a great deal of thanks. Most of all, I'd like to thanks all the fans, freaks and geeks who came to our events, cons and shows and bought our graphic novel and comic books, or just stopped by to chat. You are the ones who finance this comic madness. I promise to cook up something to feed your insatiable hunger for the dark, horrific and bizarre. In the meantime, you can get a fix at my webzine, Girls and Corpses.

What next for Satan and his mistress? I think he wants to sit on a tropical beach pondering his next move. And I'll be right beside him, pouring his Bloody Mary.

Sickcerely, the "Grin Creeper"

Robert Steven Rhine

ROBERT PICKED THE BEST
Further proof that Robert Steven Rhine found the best artists for his SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL graphic novel. Satan artist, D.W. Frydendahl has some great news.

San Jose-based comic book publisher SLG Publishing will release the first issue of The Haunted Mansion comic book this week. The comic book, based on the favorite Disney attraction and not on the motion picture, tells the story of the 999 happy haunts who inhabit the Mansion and offers a combination of funny, spooky and scary looks at everyone's favorite Haunted House.

Haunted Mansion #1
The Haunted Mansion #1 features work by noted comic book creators including Roman Dirge (creator of Lenore), Black Olive, D.W. Frydendall and Jon "Bean" Hastings.

To celebrate this event, SLG Publishing will be opening the doors of it's office for a Halloween night gallery showing of artwork from the Haunted Mansion series. On display will be original art from the first issue as well as concept artwork used in the series development. Series editor Dan Vado will be on hand as well as first issue contributors Jon "Bean" Hastings and Mike Moss.

The SLG Gallery is located at 577 S. Market Street, San Jose, CA 95113. The event will take place on Monday October 31 from 6:00-9:00 PM.

The Haunted Mansion will be a 32-page black & white comic book with a cover price of $2.95. Covers will be by Roman Dirge. Haunted Mansion will be available at better comic book stores and select book stores this October as well as on Amazon.com and at Hot Topic stores. The comic will also be available through the publisher's web site at SLGpublishing.com.

ROSEMARY'S BILLYGOAT
Our Rosemary's Billygoat art show lived up to it's freaky billing. Satan's Circus artists: Jim Smith, Frank Forte, Tone Rodriguez, D.W. Frydendall, Mike Sosnowski and Mark Covell all were there displaying their artwork. Two killer bands entertained, led off by Jim Smith and his Freehead band, which wrapped their set with Jim Smith's "Ren and Stimpy," theme song (for the show he co-created). Next up, The Bob Lee (with members of Clawhammer, Brujeria, The Dickies, Back Biter And Angry Samoans), worked the crowd into a lather.  But the evening really started getting strange when FreakShow Deluxe took the stage and the Reverend Tommy Gunn started hammering nine inch nails into his nose, eating fire, laying face down on a bed of nails and letting crowd members staple dollars bills to his body with a staple gun.  Rhine, always seeing a marketing opportunity, stapled a flyer for his next event (at Golden Apple Comics Oct. 26th) onto the Reverend's belly button. Ouch!!!!  Things took an even stranger turn when the Reverend's nose started gushing blood when he hit an artery, or was that his brain seeping out?  More on Freak Show Deluxe.

Special thanks to Mike Odd, owner of Rosemary's Billygoat, for inviting us into his little sideshow. Check here for more events at The Goat.

Go here for the photos of the event!

Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell
Review by Sam Moyerman,
posted October 06, 2005
Robert Rhine produces his newest graphic novel, and it sure does deliver on the promise of its title. Welcome to Hell. Enjoy your stay.

Along with a collection of artists, Robert Steven Rhine takes his readers on a trip through some of the most disturbing stories one can find. Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell, Rhine’s new trade paperback collection, is made up of over 40 stories. In them, he runs the gamut of horror archetypes, from zombies to cannibals to serial murdering clowns, Rhine dabbles in every playpen. If you were looking to get your fill of dismemberments, cannibalism, and, of course, Satan himself, you've come to the right place.

The artwork on this book is completed by a plethora of comic book artists. Each artist illustrates one of Rhine’s own short stories or provides a one page piece to fit in between the stories based on Rhine’s ideas. And Rhine plays to each of their strengths. With only a few instances out of the large number of artists not hitting the mark, you will never be disappointed in what you’re seeing. Although you may be disgusted enough to turn away.

With a sense of humor that matches his disturbed imagination, Rhine pulls no punches. He playfully uses clichés for no other reason than to break them down and destroy them, in the vilest ways possible. He uses cheesy situations and stereotypes but takes them to their most illogical conclusions. The single page splashes he had artists produce sometimes fall flat, as he is not able to (excuse the pun) flesh them out, but each of the short stories has something you can take from it, whether you would like to or not.

BIG NEWS ALL AROUND
I guess the biggest news is that our artist, Nenad Gucunja won The BEST CLASSIC COMICBOOK STYLE award at the prestigious International ComicBook Salon in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, for his artwork on "Hell's Bells" and "The Fungus Among Us"  both illustrated for R.S. Rhine graphic novel SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL.

Congratulations Nenad! You rock!
