SEPTEMBER SEPT. 29 Zombie movies may or may not be here to stay, but they are certainly hanging around far longer than anyone gave them credit for. The latest entry is THE 8tH PLAGUE, produced by Franklin Guerrero. Based on a story by Franklin Guerrero, it is also directed by Franklin Guerrero with cinematography by Franklin Guerrero. There is a first time for anything and this is Franklin's first time at everything. Franklin co-wrote the story with Eric Williford (who also wrote the screenplay and co-produced) and J. Michael Whalen. J. Michael also co-produced and co-DP'd. First time out for everyone. Welcome to the wonderful world of micro budget Indie filmmaking. Get used to it. With Art Direction by Paul Goldblatt, who also did SFX make-up and Special Effects Direction, the film should be pretty interesting. Launa is investigating the disappearance of her sister, Nikki, who had gone camping in the mountain town of Halcyon Springs and never came back. Her search, and a group of friends, leads them to an abandoned prison called Halcyon Ridge Correctional Facility. Very soon after arriving, they are exposed to an ancient evil that had been lying dormant. Now, they must escape before they are infected with the Zombie like disease. The film stars low budget Horror star, DJ Perry, Syn DeVil, Terry Jernigan, and Charles Edwin Powell, as well as newcomer's Leslie Anne Valenza and Hollis Zemany among others. THE 8TH PLAGUE has been selected to both The Chicago Horror Film Festival and Shockerfest. Visit The Plague. HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAY TO - Terry is also a MySpace friend. In fact, he was a bud before there was a MySpace. Check him out at MySpace.com/FilmBastard.
SEPT. 28 JOHNNY DEPP TO PRODUCE AND STAR IN REX MUNDI Jim Uhls (FIGHT CLUB) will write the screenplay. Well, there you have it, Dear Reader. There's not much more I can say about this I haven't said already in interviews here and there, so I'll just refer you to the following links: The LA Times article that got the party started. An interview with me on ComicBookResources.com, in which I do what I do best - that is to say, make disparaging, envy-laden remarks about The Da Vinci Code. Newsarama.com's interview with yours truly. So it's officially official, Dear Reader. I must thank two of the producers who went beyond the realms of sanity to make this happen: Barry Levine, head of Blatant Pictures, and Sam Sarkar at Johnny Depp's company Infinitum Nihil. Barry and Sam have toiled valiantly, and in complete obscurity, to make everything click. Without them in particular, this never would have happened. And, of course, I must say "thank you" to Johnny Depp. Thank you, Señor Depp, for taking an interest in Rex Mundi. I have a feeling this is going to be a good movie, maybe even a great one. One always hears how embittered comic book creators are at Hollywood's "perversion" of their stories. While I know big changes will have to be made, I'm confident all those changes will be for the better with you at the helm. I wouldn't be this sanguine if it were anyone else. Our reviewer, Kelly Parks (ALIEN reviews, TERMINATOR reviews, LOTR reviews), has been keeping us up-to -date on his two Action / Horror / Thriller screenplays, HOWARD'S CROSS and DOG, and how they're faring in various contests. So far HOWARD'S CROSS made the finals in the 2005 A Feeding Frenzy Screenplay competition, a contest put on by Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures, among others. His was the only Horror script to do so. HOWARD'S CROSS also made the Top Ten Finalists (out of 2,000 screenplays submitted) in the 2005 Fade In Screenwriting contest. Again, his was the only Horror script to get that far.HOWARD'S CROSS is also in the top ten finalists for the upcoming 2006 International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival screenplay competition, which takes place on October 10. Meanwhile, his screenplay DOG, has made it into the top 25% for the upcoming The Screenwriter's Expo. That's the good news. The bad news is, the contest officials chose from the 25% for their quarter finalists and DOG didn't make it. That's good news that sucks!
Author Matt Warner (THE ORGAN DONOR, DEATH SENTENCES) sez, HorrorYearbook.com is giving away one autographed copy of EYES EVERYWHERE to promote a forthcoming interview of Matthew Warner. All you have to do is send them an email with your name and state, then check back for the winner's name, which will be announced alongside the interview. AND From Shane Staley From Tom Piccirilli It's become apparent that there's been a mis-listing on many of my titles during my tenure with Bantam, and that TDL and CHOIR might actually wind up mislaid in the SF/F section. I always thought it was a store by store decision, but I've learned that's not the case and it's most likely a mistake made at the B&N corporate level. Despite some quirkiness in THE DEAD LETTERS it has no real fantastical elements like my previous books, which in the broadest sense might be considered dark crime fantasies. It's clearly a suspense novel about a guy losing his grip as he hunts for the serial killer who murdered his young daughter. Although I'm working with my publisher to fix the error, it's probably too late to get anything changed now in the system - nobody is about to restock books already out in the store - so it seems that a lot of copies in most B&Ns will be misplaced in the SF/F section. So I'm urging bookstore folks, specialty shop owners, B&N peons, and fans of every stripe to MOVE THE BOOKS TO THE FICTION SECTION. I know some bookstore employees get annoyed by this sort of thing, but even if buddies and readers just move one or two copies to the Fiction / Literature shelves, it might help the book sell where otherwise it would be completely ignored by fans of Brian Jaques, Terry Pratchett, and Robert Jordan. Visit Tom Piccirilli. HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAYS TO -
SEPT. 25 THE STORE IS OPEN - UPDATE The Feo Amante Web Shoppe will lead you to Feo Stuff all over the site. I'm an amazon.com affiliate so I've spent days going through the entire site, using every search word I could think of, to deliver all kinds of stuff in Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Suspense. And every week the store will grow. Check out the Web Shoppe now, and find out, among other things, why I gave it that name. FREE COURIER SERVICE-FROM HELL! Boston, MA - Thriller author Jon F. Merz will pen a free serialized novella THE COURIER on his MySpace.com page located at beginning Monday, October 2nd and continuing through October with a climax on Halloween. Merz, the author of the critically-acclaimed Lawson Vampire series of novels, will write a special "mini-mission" - an approximately 40,000-word supernatural hard-boiled noir adventure. MySpace users who wish to read the adventure only need add Merz's Lawson Page to their Friends list and they will then get access to the entire story as it is posted. Merz's character Lawson is an elite member of a vampiric race that evolved alongside humanity, known as a Fixer. His job is to protect the secret existence of vampires by acting as judge, jury, and executioner for rogue elements of his society. His past adventures have taken him from Boston to the Himalayas and everywhere in between as he chases down conspirators, kidnappers, power-hungry sociopaths, drug runners, and more. "MySpace.com is a terrific site filled with 111 million amazing people. I'm thrilled to bring Lawson to a new demographic of readers and fans. MySpace.com is unique and the opportunity for immediate feedback from readers is unrivaled. As a writer, I'm constantly looking to expand my readership by exploring ways that traditional publishing ignores. MySpace has been great to work with - they've pushed news of the story on several places throughout the site resulting in a flood of interested readers. I can't wait to see how this all turns out."
LAIMO'S ANXIETY There's a new audio interview posted at the STUDENT OPERATED PRESS website. Hosted by Judyth Piazza, the SOP is known for its celebrity interviews. Recently Judyth has interviewed Lloyd Kaufnman, Billy Dee Williams, Cindy Williams, Paul LeMatt, and many more. Check out my audio interview at SOP. As well, as mentioned in a previous post, the movie being made based on my short story ANXIETY, is being documented and released to the public in a series of video journals. Video journal #2 is now posted on the website. Check it out at myspace.com/anxietymovie. Ultimately these journals will be released in their entirety as a bonus feature on the DVD. SEPT. 15 eBAY PLAGERIZES FEOAMANTE.COM!Not kidding! I was surfing around looking for T2 stuff last night when I came across a search engine result for TERMINATOR 2 on eBay. The puzzling thing about that was, the very short paragraph at google, describing T2 was amazingly familiar. How familiar? Our reviewer, Kelly Parks, had wrote the same review for feoamante.com back in 1999! And on the eBay page? The full review entirely uncredited! Check out our review for TERMINATOR 2.Then check out this T2 link at eBay.eBay? I'm coming to get you! UPDATE: Tonight, Digg.com, the community news website, posted a story about this. SEPT. 14 THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING There have been several documentaries about the making of JAWS that describe the trials and tribulations endured by Steven Spielberg and his cast and crew while filming JAWS. The Shark is Still Working is about what has happened in the 30 years since JAWS was released. Narrated by Roy Scheider, the documentary shows how JAWS has changed pop culture, how it changed the film industry, how it affected the public perception of sharks, and how it inspired many filmmakers and fans. In June of last year, JAWSFest '05 (the 30th Anniversary Celebration of JAWS) was held on Martha's Vineyard, and was attended by over 3000 fans from around the world. In the beginning, The Shark is Still Working was to be just about JAWSFest and JAWS fans, but it evolved into a much bigger project, as we were fortunate to land interviews with Steven Spielberg, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, John Williams, and other cast and crew involved with JAWS. In addition, filmmakers such as Bryan Singer (APT PUPIL, THE XMEN), Robert Rodriguez (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, THE FACULTY), and Eli Roth (CABIN FEVER, 2001 MANIACS, HOSTEL) shared with us how they were inspired by the film. SEPT. 13 CRAZY ABOUT CORPSES Yep, THE SINISTER MR. CORPSE is now available from Delirium Books! The 250 numbered editions and 26 lettered editions are expected to go pretty darn fast. Zombies... Sometimes they rise from the grave, hungering for human flesh... Sometimes they're created by a mad scientist intent on forming an unstoppable army of the undead... Sometimes the zombie plague is transmitted by a horrific virus... ...and sometimes, they're resurrected in front of millions of viewers as part of a live primetime television special. This is the story of Stanley Dabernath, zombie. A regular guy who dies, is brought back to life as a ghastly walking cadaver, and becomes the international sensation hailed by the press as The Amazing Mr. Corpse. Fame! Wealth! Groupies! Despite his ghoulish appearance, Stanley finds himself living the dream. But in many ways, it's harder to be a celebrity than a zombie. The suits behind Project Second Chance want to tell him how to behave in public. It's difficult to enjoy a simple restaurant meal in peace. There's constant pressure coming at him from all sides--not to mention that many people consider him a vile blasphemy that should be erased from existence. And does Project Second Chance have Stanley's best interests in mind, or is the real reason behind his reanimation something much more...SINISTER?

LAIMO'S ANXIETY The very official MySpace page for the upcoming film ANXIETY is now online at and the first of a series of Video Diaries, as well as concept art and a production blog, have been posted on line. Although ANXIETY (based on my short story of the same title) is a major independent film, it have the same limitations as any other low budget independent film, and it is the goal of the Burning Grounds team to share their efforts with the world. The official page will be updated on a DAILY BASIS to keep friends and fans abreast of everything related to the production - updates to include: BiWeekly Video Diaries Says Director Greg Stechman: "I want to give the most interactive experience I can with the page of the film. We begin principal photography on November 24 and I want to take you all through the entire process. Bi-weekly video diaries will give you a very good look at what it's like to work on an independent film. We will highlight different aspects of the production for each segment and I will not censor anything - so, if bad stuff starts going down, I promise you will see it. I'm not hoping bad stuff will go down. I'm pretty sure it won't. I'm just saying 'if...'" Horror Writer Charles L. Grant (BLACK OAK: HUNTING GROUND, BLACK CAROUSEL) I don't know his exact age but it's reasonable to assume that there are some hills younger than he. Horror Writer Kathryn Ptacek (GHOST EYES, SHADOWEYES, [editor] WOMEN OF DARKNESS, WOMEN OF DARKNESS II) I don't know her exact age either, but I'm pretty sure that all the hills are older than she. In no time flat he has become the GoTo guy for action thrillers. Happy Birthday to- Actor Jason Statham (SNATCH, GHOSTS OF MARS, THE TRANSPORTER, COLLATERAL, CELLULAR, TRANSPORTER 2) is 33. Since 1994, this veteran actor has turned his career toward Horror and Thriller movies. Happy Birthday to Actor Ian Holm (ALIEN, KAFKA, NAKED LUNCH, FRANKENSTEIN, LOCH NESS, eXistenZ, BLESS THE CHILD, FROM HELL, LORD OF THE RINGS, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW) is 75.

WHERE'S FEO DEUX? I did duty as special effect make-up artist and meat sculptor. Let that title entice your imagination. Okay, okay, the question on everyone's mind is, "Hey Feo! Is the movie any damn good?" Answer: How could I possibly know? They haven't edited, added sound FX and everything else involved in post production as well as the - nearly - inevitable pick-up shots (those sections of the film that have to be re-shot for various reasons). I can say that many people both onscreen and off really gave their all to this flick. The hours and weather was grueling (hot summer desert days and icy cold desert nights - if only we'd had hot desserts on those icy cold nights) so I'm hoping, for everyone's sake and not just mine, that the movie turns out good. In the coming weeks and months, I'll be talking to various people whho worked on the film to get their take in working on PRIMITIVE RECALL. DISCOUNTING JACK'S BALLS One of the balls that’s been floating through the air – the Repairman Jack young-adult series – landed this month, but other are still sailing around. $4 discount off HARBINGERS In case you didn't know (and you should), there's a $4 rebate coupon at the back of the new bargain reissue of THE TOMB. The official pub date of the trade edition of the 10th Repairman Jack novel is September 19 but you should be able to find it before that. Many stores like Target and K-Mart and others sell their paperbacks at 25% off. That means, factoring in the value of the coupon, you can buy a copy of THE TOMB for pocket change. The whole purpose of the bargain price is to suck – I mean draw new readers into the RJ fold. So here's a plan: Buy a copy of THE TOMB, rip out the coupon, and give the book to a reader you know. When you use the rebate coupon your final cost could be as low as $12.47. What a country! A reader from Brazil has programmed a downloadable Repairman Jack sudoku game (this is an executable file for Windows users only -Feo). I like the sliding scale of difficulty (some days I don’t want to think too hard). An invitation from the CIA (!) to speak to their writers group in October. Looks like it will be Friday the 13th (heh) if I can make it. I do believe I’ll go. (This means 10/7 in LA, 10/13 in Langley, VA, and 10/21 in Phoenix. Swell.) I heard today about a film called “Flyboys” coming out next month. It’s about the air war in WW1. Sounds awfully similar to a spec script called “Aces” that Matt Costello and I circulated in 1997. We were told then that no one wants biplanes – only rocket ships. I haven’t seen the script. I can tell you ours viewed the air war from both sides. Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) was a major character, as was Anthony Fokker (a fascinating man). I’ll have to get hold of a “Flyboys” script. Am I pissed? Yes. Will this be actionable? Probably not. The writer rarely wins in these cases. Over the years I’ve allowed 3 young directors to make short films of some of my stories with the proviso that they not be shown for profit. All three films are being collected on one DVD that will soon be for sale. For a look at the cover art, go to post #26. Don’t forget the $4 rebate coupon in the new paperback of THE TOMB. FeoNote: An F. Paul Wilson fan like yerself would probably want all the info that Wilson sends out in his newsletters. That is why you should go to his website, RepairmanJack.com, and sign up! (The Many Lives of Al Leedskalnin) Graphic Novella If apple pie, soda, cigarettes, and the quality of music on your radio are a lie, then time-travel and the 5th dimension are real (The debunking of a false assertion does not quantify other assertions. That said, a time traveler could discover that the 5th Dimension was real, and their music played on the radio, but anyway - feo). If you’ve ever questioned your government’s intentions (always - feo) or what anyone insists “reality” is (often - feo, again), prepare yourself for a wild ride that even Alice would not be prepared to survive. In the very near future, the world as we know it is about to end, perhaps, not exactly as expected. It’s the year 2011, and the earth is riddled with inter-dimensional holes, UFO’s, and more technology and media control than anyone ever predicted. Only one man can stop it ... a man by the name of Al Leedskalnin. Al, like the earth itself, is spiritually and physically falling apart. On one hand, he is tortured with cut-up memories of his life as a guinea pig for secret government experiments. Experiments that may or may not have happened well over fifty years ago in a secret underground base in Montauk, Long Island, NY. On the other he remembers times past that don’t necessarily connect: World War II, the early days of the American frontier, and alien abductions. Like a character from a pulp-fiction crime novel in a suite and fedora, Al faced the imminent destruction of all things human head on, while clinging to his re-memories and longing for the simpler days of the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. But he can’t do it alone. Peabody Freeman, a quantum physicist with a penchant for all-night diners and fast food, is a prisoner on the same journey and is the scientific brains behind the operation. Both an epic commentary on pop culture and a look to the future with a wink, Montauk Babies delights and enlightens through O.H. Krill’s prose and over thirty dazzling illustrations by acclaimed artist and comics creator, John Malloy. Montauk Babies (or The Many Lives of Al Leedskalnin) Director Brian De Palma (SISTERS, PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, OBSESSION, CARRIE, THE FURY, DRESSED TO KILL, BLOW OUT, BODY DOUBLE, RAISING CAIN, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, SNAKE EYES, MISSION TO MARS, FEMME FATALE, THE BLACK DAHLIA) is 66. And On Saturday - Actor Jeffrey Combs (FRIGHTMARE, THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS, RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND, CELLAR DWELLER, BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR, DOCTOR MORDRID, NECRONOMICON, CASTLE FREAK, THE FRIGHTENERS, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, THE ATTIC EXPEDITIONS, FEAR DOT COM, BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR, ABOMINABLE, and way more!) is 52. Actor Goran Visnjic (NIGHT WATCH, PUSKA ZA USPAVLJIVANJE, THE PEACEMAKER, THE DEEP END, DOCTOR SLEEP, ELEKTRA) is 34. Comic The Amazing Jonathon is a Horror comic if there ever was one. He routinely chews up shards of glass, razor blades and string, and then, bleeding profusely from the mouth, pulls it all out neatly tied to the string. He is also known for pulling the spines out of volunteers from the audience. He is 48 today.
SEPT. 7 HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAYS TO -Writer/Director Dario Argento (L' UCCELLO DALLE PIUME DI CRISTALLO, IL GATTO A NOVE CODE, DEEP RED, SUSPIRIA, INFERNO, TENEBRE, PHENOMENA, OPERA, TWO EVIL EYES, TRAUMA, THE STENDHAL SYNDROME, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA [1998]) is 66. This actor usually makes more movies in one year than most actors make in a decade, and most of them are Horror / Thriller / Mystery movies. Actor Corbin Bernsen (KING KONG [1976], DEAD AIM, THE KILLING BOX, SHATTERED, TALES FROM THE HOOD, INHUMANOID, THE DENTIST, MENNO'S MIND, THE DENTIST II, RAPTOR, FANGS, and way more) is 52.

SEPT. 4 WHERE'S FEO?Yes, you may have noticed that I've been updating the site rather sporadically this month. That's because I'm out all day on a shoot doing the SFX Make-up on a new Horror Thriller action film called PRIMITIVE RECALL (that's the working title anyway, I'll keep you informed). If all goes well, this gruesome little number will be on DVD before you can accurately count Pi to 408 decimal places. And then again, maybe you already can, ya little smart ass! NYC AT FANGO LLOYD KAUFMAN CHARISMA CARPENTER (Actor) JEFFREY COMBS (Actor) JOHN SAXON (Actor) WILLIAM FINLEY (Actor) DEE SNIDER (Gadabout) ROBERT JOY (Actor) JACK KETCHUM (Writer) TIM SULLIVAN (Director) There are also going to be some pretty cool panels from, MASTERS OF HORROR, THE GRUDGE 2, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, REST STOP, HELL ON EARTH, and SAW III! THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW It didn't matter, as Hurricane Katrina became forever tied to New Orleans, Louisiana, not to Mississippi, as Robert thought it would. But the intersting part is this. In the Sept. 1 piece, I wrote that RFK Jr. was a "sick moron". What makes this unusual is that, weeks later, a few emails came trickling through. These people were googling the words As for me, I was amazed that the words, Sick Moron, according to search engines, became forever (virtually forever, anyway) embossed onto the person that is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. After I discovered this, I helped things along by adding the words Sick Moron, in the metatags. I still stand by what I said, I still believe RFK Jr. is a dullwitted boob and a sick moron for the reasons I gave, and nothing he has said or done in the past year has lifted my opinion of him. HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAYS TO - Actor Yvonne De Carlo (THE MUNSTERS [TV], MUNSTERS GO HOME, THE POWER, SATAN'S CHEERLEADERS, NOCTURNA, SILENT SCREAM, VULTURES, CELLAR DWELLER, AMERICAN GOTHIC, THE SORORITY HOUSE MURDERS) is 84. Make your mark by being fan specific! Going by the moniker, Splat, today's birthday boy has carved a cult niche for himself by being a major fan of - Not JURASSIC PARK, not even JURASSIC PARK II, but specifically JURASSIC PARK III! Whether or not that works for you is a matter of taste, but he does have the most popular JURASSIC PARK III fansite on the net! Happy Birthday to Webmaster Dan Finkelstein (DAN'S JPIII PAGE) who is 27.
