ALIEN 5 Is Dead!
Is There Room For ReBirth?

That's disheartening news but not unexpected.

Neill's only hit, his brilliant DISTRICT 9, was 11 years ago. Neill's had box office flops ever since with his 2013 super preachy ELYSIUM and the disastrous retread of 1986's SHORT CIRCUIT that nobody asked for, his over-the-top preachy and ultra serious CHAPPIE.

Unfortunately the stewards of 20th Century Fox Disney's ALIEN franchise are far adrift, as the nearly 30 years and six feature films of inept handling of the producers can attest.

The franchise painted itself into a corner.

Moreover, it's because they know they've run aground managing their franchise and movies cost money, that they turned to Neill in the first place. But again, Neill still hasn't had a hit after 11 years. And while Neill is absolutely sincere about his direction of ALIEN 5, he's also sincere about not blaming himself for the poor performance of the movies he Wrote, Produced, and Directed, but the audience, who he feels didn't understand his truckload of exposition and narration heavy sermons.

I've seen less ponderous evangelizing from television evangelists - and they were actual evangelists!

It appears, watching video interviews with Neill on the subject, that his box office bombs turned out just the way he wanted, it's the audience that has the problem. That's the kind of blameless attitude that dries up opportunities like little else.

So where does that leave us besides a TV show?

Maybe ALIEN needs to end at ALIENS? Maybe there's just no more that needs to be said?

But if there is, what is that direction?

Well, nobody asked me but since I didn't ask for anyone's permission...

This is my idea.

With PROMETHEUS and COVENANT, Ridley Scott's "Ancient Astronauts: Seeds of Humanity" arc, derailed, as Scott sought to graft Erich von Daniken's debunked screeds of humans as the egocentric center of a small, confined Cosmos.

There's no room for Imagination let alone Wonder in such a place: No room for a Story to Grow, Live, and Breathe.

- BUT

give ALIEN the diverse and boundless room of the Universe and the Franchise can Thrive.

My version starts after ALIENS and features Ripley at the age Weaver is today.

Instead of humans as the center, cause, or reason for everything, I expand upon the original idea that we are Lost and Unnoticed by the Universe.

We are a lonely part of no one's plan.

We stumble blind in the night and only come upon the horrors when we fly into their web.

This is the ethos of exploration and, as such, it can go everywhere and all without used-up unimaginative tropes like ancient astronauts, vampires, werewolves, or zombies.
