Oh, I Get It!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is supposed to be ... a parody! You know, like SCARY MOVIE.

Remember SCARY MOVIE?
Did you know it had 4 sequels?
Did you know about the first two?

Well, nothing succeeds like success! And when something is surprisingly successful (like the BATMAN franchise), others who feel they have something a little less than noteworthy, want to emulate the success of others.

Wes Craven's excellent, RED EYE!

In no time, the law of diminishing returns squelches the Come-Late-lys, but the first one or two bandwagon jumpers tend to have a good ride! ...mewstly.

If you wait 7 years to piggy-back on another movie,
your return may diminish faster than you expected.

On another note, I'm talking about STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

I dared to call it a parody? I DARED?!? I haven't even seen it! Of all the unmitigated hubris! Where do I get off?

Well, I'll start from last year.

Back in late 2012, more than a few people noticed (and some made fun of), the first STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS poster,

Smash your buildings with Logos!

for awesomely looking like the poster for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Then with the release of advance stills, people started commenting on Zachary Quinto's, Spock's spacesuit (his Space Spocksuit?),

The Nautilus is on fire, Spock! And Captain Nemo has lost his mind!

reminiscent of a cross between Steampunk-style 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA and TRON: LEGACY (the all important Disney factor!).

So Very, Very Blue.

And in case any of us missed it, then we got still more stills, with Chris Pine's Captain Kirk looking decidedly TRON-ish.

That's One Chin Point for Captain Kirk!

And now we have the latest STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS poster of the Starship Enterprise...

Here we go again: Another Star Trek movie, another destroyed Enterprise.

pulling an IRON MAN 3?

Not the first time Robert Downey Jr. had a spectacular fall.

Oh, Come on!

Who do you think yer kidding, J.J. Abrams?

UPDATE:
And now we find out that J.J. Abrams' second Star Trek movie is entirely about the exact same villain as the Second Star Trek movie?

And I'm really supposed to believe that this sequel isn't meant to be a joke?

Gedoudaheah!
