ALIENS! There, I wanted to get that out of the way as an example of a sequel that was as good as, or even (arguably) superior to, the original movie. However, ALIENS was released back in 1986! It's 2018! Further, the Great Pixar hasn't had a Great track record when it comes to sequels (MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, Finding Dory, Cars everything). So what did I think of THE INCREDIBLES 2? I LOVED IT! Lemme tell you why! No wait, let me get you up to speed first! Okay, the presumption is you've already watched THE INCREDIBLES so you know the whole family made it out in one piece. If you didn't know that, too bad, both the poster and the trailers spoiled it for you. Now! THE INCREDIBLES 2 begins mere seconds after THE INCREDIBLES ended, 14 years ago. Yes, the sequel was almost 15 years too late, but never mind that. The Underminer (John Ratzenberger) is causing massive devastation to the city and The Incredibles feel they are the only ones who can stop him. But wait! In the heat of battle, Frozone shows up to join in the fray! OMG! What will happen next? Probably what you don't expect but should. Remember that The Incredibles had their house destroyed by Syndrome's jet in the first one, so they're living in a roadside hotel for the moment. Supers experienced momentary goodwill by saving the city from an indestructable robot, but it takes time to change the laws that put them underground in the first place, so they still need to lay low. Except now that they've come out, they've captured the giddy attention of a multi-billionaire, Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk: FREAKS OF NATURE, HELL AND BACK), whose parents were huge supporters of Supers back in the day, and created many of the technologies Supers used (such as Mr. Incredible's transforming IncrediCar). Together with his inventor sister, Evelyn (Catherine Keener: SURVIVAL QUEST, 8MM, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, ADAPTATION., GET OUT), Winston is out to bring the Supers back out of the closet and accepted for who they are and the benefit they offer. Well of course that's going to go all wrong and now we have a story! Moving from the end of THE INCREDIBLES right into the beginning of THE INCREDIBLES 2, the children are all the same age, although actor Spencer Fox, who at the age of 10 voiced Dashiell 'Dash' Parr, is now 24 and sounds too old. Huckleberry Milner is the new voice of Dash and if you watched THE INCREDIBLES the night before you saw THE INCREDIBLES 2, you'll notice the difference. You'll also notice that in a matter of seconds, Robert "Mr. Incredible" Parr's voice is older, rougher, more gravel-y. Oddly enough, I noticed no change in Holly Hunter or Samuel L. Jackson's voice. Edna Mode (Brad Bird) sounds the same as well. What that boils down to is Pixar better not wait over a decade for the third movie*. Why? Because THE INCREDIBLES 2 is AMAZING! Great Fun! Great Thrills! Great Mystery! This is one of the most exciting Superhero movie series ever made! 5 Shriek Girls!
