ZOMBIELAND DOUBLE TAPZombies are evolving thanks to the zombie virus? Okay, Columbus is supposed to be the well-read loner geek. He's supposed to be knowledgeable about the fundamentals of evolution as well as viruses, and he gets Both Wrong.
1. Unless the zombies are mating and producing zombie offspring that can also mate and produce zombie offspring, they aren't evolving, only mutating. 2. When a person dies from a virus, the virus in their corpse either goes dormant or dies. Viruses cannot survive on dead matter as they need the DNA of living tissue. 3. If viruses created the zombies and are living in them, then said zombies aren't the Re-animated dead, but the Infected. These are humans driven cannibal mad by a disease. Ergo: If they are the infected then there's the - however slight - possibility of a cure! Also, ZOMBIELAND would immediately shift from the subset of UNDEAD: Revenant Horror (Vampires, Ghosts, Lichs, Dybbuks, Zombies) to Pandemic Horror (LAST MAN ON EARTH, THE OMEGA MAN, RABID, 28 DAYS LATER, THE CRAZIES). ... which would nicely wrap up ZOMBIELAND 3 (or whatever they'll call it), as well as introduce the devastating burden of guilt that our fun loving dingbats would suffer over having killed innocent sick people. Such a Fictonal device is not without precedence in science fiction alone. Take the case of Richard Matheson's bestselling 1954 novel, I AM LEGEND. Moreover, viruses infecting mobile life forms and turning them into the equivalent of a superhuman T-800, style "zombies", also exists in nature. Read about the adorable little pathogen known as the Baculovirus. This review copyright 2020 E.C.McMullen Jr.
