DYING DAYS

YOUR DYING DAYS ARE OVER!
Horror writer, Eric S. Brown (SPACESHIPS AND GRAVEYARDS w/ Jason Brannon and John Grover, BAD MOJO, DARK KARMA) has a new book hitting the streets. DYING DAYS is a tale of zombie horror in the tradition of 28 DAYS LATER and DAWN OF THE DEAD. Feo Amante contributor and Horror writer, Brian Keene, says it's a "whirlwind of talent and good old fashion scares."

David Drake, author of the Hammer's Slammers series, calls DYING DAYS: "A striking example of a 50's horror movie without the usual happy ending"!!

From Hertzen Chimera
THE SPIDERED WEB OF HERTZEN CHIMERA

Cyber-Pulp presents an author interview book like no other! Hertzan Chimera interviews some of the great horror/dark fantasy authors around today. Join him as he interrogates Jack Ketchum, Edward Lee, Tom Piccirilli, and many others with his highly unusual bondage /journalism techniques. Then try to collect as many autographs as you can at signings and conventions to make this book a valuable collector's item.

Hertzen recalls that back in 2000, "while building up a career as a psycho-erotic horror writer, I came up with the now legendary interview technique for Terror Tales ezine where the interviewee is set inside the world of his own words. Some of the great genre gentlefolk and some of the angry young horror upstarts have fallen under the cosh of their own creations thanks to this unique interview style. With authors like Jack Ketchum, Edward Lee and Tom Piccirilli, this is the a completist’s must-have paperback – something to cherish."

These are the writers interviewed in

Jack Ketchum
Edward Lee
Charlee Jacob
Tom Piccirilli
Michael A Arnzen

Kurt Newton
Christina Sng
John Lawson

From Judi Rohrig
PRE-THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS from HELLNOTES

Every publication has its deadlines, and for this week's issue of HELLNOTES NEWSLETTER, timing caused a few important news items to be left out. Thanks to Feo for allowing space for some updates.

HAZZARD ZINGS KING AND OTHER THINGS...

On Thursday, November 20, HELLNOTES reported how this week one Bretislav Bures, a Czech immigrant, had been arrested outside Stephen King's home. Bures pleaded guilty to stalking and now faces deportation. But oops and oh! On Wednesday night, November 19, King faced a decidedly colder evil when he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Book Foundation in New York.

In his bold and challenging remarks, King suggested the book foundation avoid making his honor a mere one-time shot for commercially successfully writers, and for the industry to open itself to reading works by writers John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Mary Higgins Clark, and others. "What do you think," King chided, "you get social academic brownie points for deliberately staying out of touch with your own culture?"

Writer Shirley Hazzard, who was also honored at the black-tie affair for her THE GREAT FIRE which claimed the coveted Fiction prize, was hardly amused. "I don't think giving us a reading list of those who are most read at this moment is much of a satisfaction," said Hazzard.

In the end, King returned to his stalker-free Maine home, richer for the august literary honor and the bucks he's pulling in on the just-released WOLVES OF THE CALLA, the latest segment in the THE DARK TOWER series.

And it was just a wicked rumor that King attended with mistletoe pinned to the tail of his tux.

Okay, on to more amusing subjects: Comic books! Avatar is about to publish Joe R. Lansdale's THE DRIVE-IN, adapted by Christopher Golden with art by Andres Guinaldo. What does Issue 1 look like and read like? Randy Lander at TheFourthRail.com tells us in his column, Snap Judgments.

HELLNOTES NEWSLETTER, a weekly publication, will take a break next week, but returns with Part Two of William P. Simmons' FEAR FOCUS with Gary A. Braunbeck, a review of Stephen King's WOLVES OF CALLA by none other than Hank Wagner, markets briefs, and more news than you can imagine! You don't want to miss anything, do you? THE FERAL CHILD
Our own music and book reviewer, Brian Knight, (BLACK DAY, DRAGONFLY, RANDOM ACTS OF WEIRDNESS) has a new supernatural horror novel FERAL, which will be released in December of 2003, and is now available for preorder.

Praise for Brian Knight & FERAL:

"Brian Knight delivers with a 'drive-in movie book.' Knight has the literary goods to create up-close high tech special effects, and so the monsters aren't cheap-o / fake and their victims really bleed and really hurt. FERAL keeps you reading. It's a page-turner." - Mort Castle, author of Moon On The Water & Nations of the Living, Nations of the Dead

"Brian Knight knows the dark territory of which he writes. The chills are authentic, the terrors so real you might find your palms bloody from dug-in fingernails. FERAL is a haunting, genuine fusion of horrific fantasy and the fearsome dreads of present-day life. FERAL bites hard and doesn't let go." - Tom Piccirilli, author of The Night Class & A Choir of Ill Children

"Brian Knight's writing shines with a dark brilliance."
- Douglas Clegg, author of The Hour Before Dark & The Attraction

"Knight is a writer to watch." - Ellen Datlow, Years Best Fantasy & Horror

HORROR THRILLER TOPS ON THE MOVIE CHARTS AGAIN
Not for the first time this year, Horror/Thrillers dominate the top ten box office. Whether it's SciFi Monsters (THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS), Horror send-ups (SCARY MOVIE 3), creepy Mysteries (MYSTIC RIVER), or brutal slasher (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE [2003] - profitable in its first weekend!), Horror Thrillers continue to find the largest audience. In fact, numerous times over the last 5 years alone, the death knell has been sounded for Horror. From publishers who churned out commitee written pap, to editors who reluctantly publish it but really don't like it, to smug smirking letters and articles saying that "real world" terrorism will put it down: fools without foresight or insight have repeatedly chanted the knee-jerk chorus line mantra "Horror is Dead!"

Well guess again, el pinche tontos!

FLASH! DEENA HOLLAND FORCED TO GIVE UP HER DOMAIN NAME!
This is because Deena Holland married Matt Warner and replaced her last name with his (the better to escape creditors! HA! They NEVER catch on to this game!). Her new website is deenawarner.net. Deena is currently busy re-designing websites for the likes of Horror writer William Gagliani to coincide with the upcoming release of his novel WOLF TRAP. Deena is also contributing design to her husband, Matt Warner's (THE ORGAN DONOR) new site (main design by Will Ludwigsen).

Deena is a fast rising talent among Horror artists and is turning that talent toward the following books:

From Harry Shannon
HARRY'S TRAINWRECK

Harry Shannon just got an update from Kyle Gass of TENACIOUS D, whose Masterworks CD is now available for purchase and guaranteed to make you soil your shorts with laughter. A couple of months ago he was approached as a therapist to do a video for Gass with another band, a country band/comedy act called TRAINWRECK and the project went to the editing room.

Harry was under the impression that the therapy part of the mock group therapy went a little too well, and that his fifteen minutes of fame were up. This morning he was informed by Mr. Gass that the editing guys are reporting that there is some pretty funny stuff. In the immortal words of Mr. Gass,
"oh no, saaaaul goode"

Harry says anyone who loves The D, or just a good laugh, should check out this act, too. They perform in mullett hairpieces and do for country music what the immortal Tenacious D has done for serious rock and roll.
