LET THE JUDGING BEGIN!
Horror writer Weston Ochse (SCARY REDNECKS and Other Inbred Horrors w/David Whitman, NATURAL SELECTION, APPALACHIAN GALAPAGOS) has been running a contest on his site in promotion of his and David Whitman's books APPALACHIAN GALAPAGOS and the new hardcover re-issue of SCARY REDNECKS and Other Inbred Horrors. Various people have entered the contest including our own reviewer, Brian Knight (RANDOM ACTS OF WEIRDNESS, DRAGONFLY, BLACK DAY), feoamante contributor Harry Shannon (NIGHT OF THE BEAST, NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF) as well as David Niall Wilson, Wayne Allen Sallee, Joe Konrath, two women who bear a suspicious resemblance to Horror writer Yvonne Navarro (Weston's spouse). I'm in there too because ... well, its a contest yall! And there is something about a contest of skill that just brings out my damn ol' competitive nature. So check out the APPALACHIAN GALAPAGOS PICTURE CONTEST.

From Brian Knight
DRAGONFLYS HAVE FLOWN AWAY
Only 10 . . . copies left of the Deluxe Leatherbound Edition of DRAGONFLY that is.

Understand that, for a virtual unknown, the fact that Brian Knight has sold so many of these special edition books speaks volumes (HA!)

There were 100 Signed Hardcovers selling at $55.00 and

26 Deluxe Leather-bound Hardcovers selling at $150.00 and they are nearly all sold OUT!

Brian Knight (feoamante.com contributor, editor of RARE and Random Acts of Weirdness) says: This is the ultimate edition of DRAGONFLY, with an extra story and original Alan M. Clark cover art, bound in soft leather, utilizing state of the art binding techniques that are an art form in themselves.

Brian Knight also had THIS to say about some of the other writers who are with Delirium.

From Matt Warner
MATT WARNER IS SET TO EXPLODE
Lot's of stuff going on in Horror writer (THE ORGAN DONOR) Matthew Warner's life.

He and his fiancée Deena Lineberger (a.k.a. illustrator Deena Holland) have moved in together and, as he says, "We finally unloaded THING (That House In Nowhere Georgia). We've been planning a horror-themed wedding and honeymoon (okay, a "Horror-themed" wedding? Sure! That's cake! But a Horror-themed HONEYMOON??? That's a style of wedding consumation I just haven't been able to pull off yet! -Feo)."

Matt talks about Matthew's Miles and more...

HAPPY HORROR BIRTHDAYS TO -
And on Sunday, Sept. 28
I guess when you are born with a name like Frank Kenny Wilson, the first thing you want to do is runaway and join the MARILYN MANSON band. So let's give a Happy Birthday to
Musician Ginger Fish (MARILYN MANSON: Holywood, MARILYN MANSON: The Golden Age of the Grotesque, and more) who is 37.
Musician George Lynch (of 1980s metal band DOKKEN) is 39.

DAMN THE CRITICS! HORROR FILMS RULE!
And this isn't even my headline! This headline comes from imdb.com! Why? Because Horror rules again as the most popular film genre of 2003, just like in 1999. While there have been clunker Horror films this year, they have also been the most profitable, chewing through a competition of sequels, cop rock, and rom coms. As of today, there are no less than 5 Horror / Thriller movies in the top 10. These are:
1. UNDERWORLD (Horror)
4. ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO (Thriller)
5. COLD CREEK MANOR (Thriller)
7. CABIN FEVER (Horror)
9. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (Horror).

Loathe as I am to come off seeming coy regarding the work of friends, I honestly have to say that, if there are any movie folk reading this website, there are two stories you will want to check out for possible films. The screenplay ONCE UPON THE END by Weston Ochse and the novel THE RISING by Brian Keene. I've read them both. Both are most excellent. And both would translate well to the screen.

HAPPY HORROR BIRTHDAY!
Horror / Dark Fantasy / SF writer Tanith Lee is one of the very few who can naturally write weird, romantic, haunted, and terrifying all within the same story and make it seamless! While many, even well established authors stumble from love scene to horror scene, Tanith does it all with natural grace and beauty of a violent storm (Well, I find grace and beauty in storms anyway -Feo). She may very likely be the original Gothic Writer. Happy Birthday to
Tanith Lee (MORTAL SUNS, VIVIA, THE CLADIA JOURNALS, THE BOOK OF THE DAMNED, THE BOOK OF THE MAD, RED AS BLOOD, FACES UNDER WATER and way more) who is 57.

KING'S A HAPPY CAMPER!
Stevie won the 2003 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from The Board of Directors of the National Book Foundation. Steve said of the award, "This is probably the most exciting thing to happen to me in my career as a writer since the sale of my first book in 1973." And this is for a very good reason, as the National Book Foundation turns its attention to those who have greatly contributed to Ameican literature. The NBF is highly recognized in literature and the prize is coveted for its merit. So the importance in all of this is the years that King, for all of his popularity (popularity means squat in the long run. Britney Spears is popular in the 2000s like Debbie Gibson was popular in the 1980s. Debbie who?) was shunned, reviled, and booed for all of his work being nothing more than (shudder) "Genre Writing!" That bane of the dark ghetto of book store shelves.

From Wrath James White
MAKING THE BEST OF 14 SECONDS
(FeoNote: The following is from Horror writer and feoamante.com reviewer, Wrath. Quoth the Wrath)
Many of you know that I came out of retirement last night (Saturday, Sept. 13) with a kickboxing title fight in Oklahoma. For anyone who was curious about the result lets just say it was the best 14 seconds of my life. I hit him. He hit the floor. One kick to the head and the fight was over 14 seconds after it began. Now I can rest easy and get back to scaring the shit out of people on paper instead of in the ring for another couple of months. Thanks to all those who I know were wishing me well.

THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON
(FeoNote: either someone was worried that I'd miss this, or I'm just on too many damn mailing lists!)
In the deserts of the Middle East, where civilization began, there has always been conflict. And there has always been magic and mystery, danger and demons. The djinns exist. Whether in modern Babylon, or a Babylon forgotten by time, passion runs strong. Babylon rises from the sand, unexpected, to both entice and devour. And the sands fall from Babylon.

CARL KOLCHAK: BEHIND THE SCENES OF A NIGHT STALKER
Carl Kolchak is legendary as first modern paranormal investigator - but shockingly! - although his exploits inspired The X-Files's Fox Mulder (and influenced Fox TV's Werewolf!), Kolchak creator Jeff Rice was cruelly mistreated by Hollywood, and actor Darren McGavin was so disgusted by on-set tension that he begged for Kolchak's TV show to be canceled!

There are no small number of writers in Horror today, toiling away, trying their damndest to be weirder than thou. But M. F. REST NOW, EXCITABLE BOY
Warren Zevon wrote and sung many songs but none so "hit popular" as the ultra cool Werewolves of London. Songs of monsters were sung before but they were trite and cornball. "Werewolves", like many of Warren's songs, was smooth and cool, violent and funny, rusty and suave, all at the same time. Warren died Sunday after many months of battling lung cancer brought on by too many years of smoking cigarettes. His last days were spent with family and friends, working on his final album, THE WIND, which was released in August of this year. He was 56.

HAPPY HORROR BIRTHDAY TO
This guy has spent his career in small Horror movies and what Horror! Nothing but the most off the wall freaked out yet intriguing stuff you ever saw!
Actor Jeffery Combs (FRIGHTMARE, THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS, RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND, CELLAR DWELLER, BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR, DOCTOR MORDRID, NECRONOMICON, CASTLE FREAK, THE FRIGHTENERS, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, THE ATTIC EXPEDITIONS, FEAR DOT COM, BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR, and way more!) is 49.
Comic The Amazing Jonathon is a Horror comic if there ever was one. He routinely chews up shards of glass, razor blades and string, and then, bleeding profusely from the mouth, pulls it all out neatly tied to the string. He is also knnown for pulling the spines out of volunteers from the audience. He is 45 today.

In the latest spate of e-book sale mania, Hertzan Chimera's collaborative culture shock collections, CHIM & HER (co-written with Charlee Jacob, Alex Severin, Amy Grech, Destiny West, Dawn Andrews, Brutal Dreamer, Queenie Tirone and Christina Sng), CHIM & HIM (co-written with DF Lewis, MF Korn, Mark McLaughlin, Simon Logan, Greg Wharton, Marc Sanchez, John Lawson and Vincent Sakowski), and CHIMERWORLD (Hertzan as editor, submission deadline End October 2003) have all been snapped up by Cyber Pulp for e-book release in late 2003, Q1 2004.

These crazed sex-horror rollercoasters come in all ebook formats direct from the publishers and are also available through Fictionwise, PalmDigitalMedia and MicrosoftReader official sites.

DOUBLE YOUR READING! DOUBLE YOUR FUN!
Brian Keene (Bram Stoker winner and author of THE RISING) and John Urbancik (SINS OF BLOOD AND STONE) are sharing a book designed in the spirit of old ACE paperbacks. On one side is Brian's new novella, THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON and on the other side is Urbancik's story, the title of which I cannot even find on his own site. He refers to the book as "that one with the Brian Keene story." So there you have it. The cover art is by Deena Holland. Published by Earthling Publications, which has no further information on their site. So it's a big freakin' mystery aleady!

HAPPY HORROR BIRTHDAYS TO
On Sunday, Sept. 7.
I feel I don't even HAVE to explain THIS director from Italy. His very name stands for Artistic Horror!
Writer/Director Dario Argento (L' UCCELLO DALLE PIUME DI CRISTALLO, IL GATTO A NOVE CODE, DEEP RED, SUSPIRIA, INFERNO, TENEBRE, PHENOMENA, OPERA, TWO EVIL EYES, TRAUMA, THE STENDHAL SYNDROME, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) is 63.
This actor usually makes more movies in one year than most actors make in a decade, and most of them are Horror / Thriller / Mystery movies.
Actor Corbin Bernsen (KING KONG [1976], DEAD AIM, THE KILLING BOX, SHATTERED, TALES FROM THE HOOD, INHUMANOID, THE DENTIST, MENNO'S MIND, THE DENTIST II, RAPTOR, FANGS, and way more) is 49.
Though probably best known for American Pie, this actress is also known for starring in nutso Horror movies. Look for her in the 2004 werewolf movie, CURSED. Happy Birthday to

HORROR INDESTRUCTIBLE?
After the insideous events of September 11, 2001, and after the initial shock, there were those in the writing community who claimed that the event would kill Horror. No one would want to watch or read Horror for a very long time. Both in movies and books, nearly a century of history proved them wrong, but no matter: This was a new era and human nature had changed. No one would want to watch or see it.

TOM HAS LEFT THE NEST
Tom Piccirilli is no longer associated with Mike Oliveri, but that's not a bad thing. For years now, Horror writer Tom Piccirilli has had his official website as a subset of Mike Oliveri's website. but things have got big for Tom and I mean BIG! Tom's newest website is tompiccirilli.com and his webmaster is his long time lover, Michelle Scalise, a published writer in her own right who can be found at michellescalise.com. They didn't put ME in their list of links but I don't care! They're all so damn Italian you can smell the garlic just reading this!
Nyahh!

IF THEY EVER RISE FROM THE DEAD...
I will welcome them back with open arms, but until then, let's bid adieu to the following Horror sites that I must remove from my links list.
A Fond farewell to
GOTHIC.NET: R.I.P. And it's time to get a new sticker for my hat.
HORROR FI ME: It has been "Under Construction" since 56k was fast and dot coms were booming!
REDSINE: Though still officially online, they haven't been updated in about a year.
TWILIGHT SHOWCASE: The 04-01-03 Re-Birth never happened.
Adios, yall!
And if you are a Horror fan and enjoyed these sites, remember, most of them live or die by your contributions, click throughs, or purchases. So if there is one you want to keep around, spare a buck or two!

And the like. You will also find that these viruses and trojans are in the 97kb to 103kb range. Regardless of the email address (Even if it's a friend or relative - which is likely a hacked into account) avoid even opening these emails. HAPPY HORROR BIRTHDAYS TO-
In addition to being Eddie Munster's Mom, Hollywood pin-up beauty, Yvonne de Carlo (whose first 20 or so movies merely listed her - or not - in the credits as "Girl") played lead roles as a strong, independent woman in movies like BRUTE FORCE, Black Bart, Casbah, Calamity Jane and Sam Bass, The Gal Who Took The West, and The Desert Hawk. Even in her musicals and comedies Yvonne brought a hard edged whimsy to her role. So she was perfect for early 1960s TeeVee comedy during that media's S.F. / Horror period when she played Lily Munster in THE MUNSTERS TeeVee series. So Happy Birthday,
Yvonne de Carlo (BRUTE FORCE, "MUNSTER, GO HOME", THE POWER, LA CASA DE LAS SOMBRAS, SATAN'S CHEERLEADERS, NOCTURNA, SILENT SCREAM, CLASS REUNION, PLAY DEAD, CELLAR DWELLER, AMERICAN GOTHIC, "MIRROR, MIRROR", THE SORORITY HOUSE MURDERS) who is 81.
