Harris and Ethan Dettenmaier Details surrounding the title character are TOP, TOP SECRET but the rest of the principle cast includes: RICHARD TYSON (Black Hawk Down, Something About Mary, Two Moon Junction), JASON HILDEBRANDT (Black Hawk Down, and the upcoming KNIGHT FEVER), LEE VING (The Decline of Western Civilization, Black Moon Rising, singer of the punk band FEAR), GREG TRAVIS (TOOL BOX MURDERS, STARSHIP TROOPERS, LOST HIGHWAY) LEWIS SMITH (Southern Comfort, Buckaroo Banzi, Wyatt Earp) and Jacqueline Moore (Of the WWF now WWE). The producing team is also in talks with Jonathan Davis of KORN and REGGIE BANNISTER (PHANTASM) as well as several others to make dark appearances in the film The script got quite a bit of heat earlier in the year when it was on the sales block but different Studio and Production Company Executives wanted to make Hollywood changes like: casting kids off the Warner Bros. Network or a feel good ending! One Exec even suggested tacking on an exorcism because thats big right now! So the rights were retained by writer ETHAN DETTENMAIER (a working script doctor based in Los Angeles) and he set out to direct (He recently made the comment Im tired of watching Hollywood recycle good material into shit! and continued, We want to make this dark and kick your teeth in - the rest of the text is unfit to print). Lota Hadley (THE HOUSE OF GRIMM and the upcoming Greek Life) along with JON DIVENS (BLADE, BLADE 2, BLADE TRINITY) is set to produce. Music will be composed by MIDNIGHT SYNDICATE. ROB HOWETH

Spears The Plot: During the westward expansion, a small Indian village is wiped out to make way for the settlement town of Lazarus. Years later, a single surviving Indian child returns as a grown man to enact his revenge. He places an ancient curse on the town in which the dead rise from their graves to prey upon the living. Into this inferno wanders a bounty killer on the hunt for a fugitive. Hes no hero - he couldnt care less about this dusty town or its rotting problems. He has men to kill, even if he has to raze the town to do it. See the 5 page preview on Newsarama.com. From Denise Rahman HELPING READERS AVOID DEATH BY USING ICE Is just one of the many benefits of reading Feo Amante's Horror Home Page. Today we want to get the word out about ICE. A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular consequence of last week's terrorist attacks in London. Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative / next-of-kin in an emergency situation. The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history." For more information on this, go to BBC/Mobile. And relax, this is no hoax.

LEAD TO ... From the never ending war in Sudan fought with an equally never ending supply of French made weapons. Weapons chiefly made by Lagardere, which in addition to being the #1 seller of small arms worldwide, also owns and controls media such as, Bon Voyage, Disney-Hatchett, Elle, Parents, Photo, Premiere (and 33 other magazines), Hodder Headline (Whose key authors include, Stephen King, John Le Carré, James Patterson and Enid Blyton), Harlequin, Octopus Publishing (and 50 other publishers in Europe and the United States), Europa 2, Europe FM, RFM (and 20 other radio stations throughout Europe), as well as over 100 other film, television, and radio production and distribution properties including Hatchett (European distributor for nearly all Disney and Disney owned companies, like Miramax), Studio Canal, Vivendi Universal. Lagadere, in addition to having a huge control over world media, also has 2% of the company owned by Montana Management, Saddam Hussein's investment company. Since the mid 1990's Lagardere, through its various companies, has invested, studio produced, or distributed, nearly every film that Sean Penn has produced, directed, or starred in, including 2002s, 11'09''01 - September 11, a French & Iranian effort attempting to dramatize how much 9/11 meant to the rest of the world. To the government controlled radio station, Radio France Internationale, which is beamed across the world but specifically to Arab nations. A French government controlled radio station that calls for violence against the United States and has done so throughout the time of Bill Clinton and before. You start to realize just why, perhaps, that the #1 best selling book for over a year in France is a pro-America book called "Anti-Americanism" by renown author, Jean Francois Revel. And you also start to understand why the French people voted against the will of their president and their government this year, handing Francois Mitterand a humiliating defeat. Mitterand's "Big Brother" tactics and propaganda use of the media appears to be a growing thorn in the side of the French population, much the same way that citizens of the U.S. are getting sick of the star struck celebrity Media of the U.S. From William
Gagliani I am ecstatic to join the Leisure family! It's no exaggeration to say that more of today's best-known horror authors are published by Leisure Books than just about anyone else. It is an incredible honor to be mentioned in the same paragraph as some of these people we have all come to love - I won't name them all, but you know who they are. I'm humbled to be associated with them in my small way. WOLF'S TRAP is a North Woods noir thriller with a supernatural streak. In pitch-speak, it might be described as "The Wolf Man" meets "No Way to Treat a Lady" by way of "Deliverance" and with a nod to "Body Double." I would like to thank everyone who read and enjoyed it, everyone who may have voted for it during the Stoker process, everyone who had a hand in making it a success - and, finally, everyone whose friendship, encouragement, and support has helped me make it through the rough spots of both life and career. As always, please feel free to visit williamdgagliani.com for news, updates, and specials. Here is the thing. Let's suppose you live in Iran, where you have no rights except those dictated by your country's dictators. And the rule of law is laid down by Sharia but entirely interpreted in myriad ways by various clerics. So anything you do, like for example, protest, can result in imprisonment, death, or even imprisonment of your family members. So when you protest in such a brutal climate, it's clearly an act of bravery. Now lets imagine you living in a place like the U.S., Great Britain, or any other country that has a rule of law where is interpreted by judges who are, themselves, subject to those laws. Oh yeah, and protest is never punished, but encouraged. Now it is here where the media has, for decades, ceased to become a news reporting agency: zero credibility, zero bipartisianship. Unlike Joe Friday, the media isn't interested in the facts, just the facts - has, in truth, no interest in the facts. Understand that this doesn't mean that the Media doesn't report the facts - it does when it suits their purposes. So you never know when the news is real and when it is fiction. What's more, the biggest news agencies have such a difficult time distinguishing between what they are inventing and what actual news they are reporting that one reporter after the next can completely fabricate stories and get away with it for years! And the only interest at all is in "Our side". So when someone, like say, an organization that once meant something but has long lost its significance, makes a protest video, numbskulls come out of the woodwork praising the videomakers "bravery". Brave to protest? IN GREAT BRITAIN? How can it be brave to protest in a place that encourages protest? I thought about this while I was fiddling about at ifilms yesterday. For your perusal, a protest videos by some "brave" western protestors. While watching this video, remember how fast these brave G8 protestors scurried while to their ratholes when the bombs went off in the tubes. Just in time for the latest terrorist attack! Not that you'll EVER see these "brave protestors" protesting inhumane slaughter! HA! For that they'd have to be really brave, not simply fawning after the latest media approved gloat. All said, I still approve of their right to say what they want even if I think they're a bunch of talentless hacks safely retreading their party line.

Barson So this is the story of Johnny Caronte. A colorful noir-ish tale of mobsters, hitmen, and femme fatales (naturally). However, the characters in this dark tale have a peculiar trait - they are all zombies! It's like a Bogart flick meets Night of the Living Dead! Johnny Caronte, zombie police dectective, investigates the mysterious assassination of the mayor's daughter. The more he uncovers in the case, the more he finds himself enshrouded in deeper mystery. The art and story were done by Spanish comic book artist Tony Sandoval.

NOT READ OR SPEAK OF WHAT YOU'VE READ, BY FORCE OF LAW! Jaime Broadhurst, marketing director at Raincoast Books Ltd, and one of Rowling's hired muggles, says the "innocent" fans would not be punished (providing the little bastards adhere to the damn court order! -Feo). The company will accept the returned copies until July 16 (I don't know what, if any, extraordinary measures will be taken against those who fail to comply). Those fans who do cooperate will get an autographed bookplate and a T-Shirt for their trouble. Whew! So all of you writers and wannabe writers out there: Remember this little incident when and IF you are lucky enough to hit upon an idea that captures the imagination of a large and loyal fanbase. Adding another $100 million to your billion is fraught with teeny peril and even innocent fans must be handled delicately but with the corporate force of iron-fisted law! It's all in keeping with the ever darkening tone of the HP books!

NOT MUCH
TO SAY AFTER THIS WEEKEND Overall, and largely according to blogs I'm reading from England, the Brits seem more angry and upset than outright shocked by this attack like Americans were by 9/11. Even more surprising, a few posts - claiming to be from England - take the tack that "At least it wasn't as bad as 9/11!" Of course I have no way of knowing (since these aren't my blogs) if those posting are really from England. So they could either be disguised US Americans claiming superior victimhood or real Brits offering a buck-up to their fellow UK'ers. In either case it seems a weird way to keep score. I'm going to wait a few more days for either emails to come in or website updates (as some of them have that). Those who haven't weighed in by Wednesday, I'll email again. If I still don't get a reply, I'll post their freaking photos and names! That will light a freaking fire! But the vacuum is likely just a combo case of being swamped and laziness. That I understand.
JULY 8
7/7 Every year when the Hurricanes hit Florida I get on the phone and call my friends and family there too. Friends called me when they heard about the landslides and earthquakes in my area earlier this year. Its just something that people do. I came away stunned at the photos at Flickr and amazed at the blogs in England, most particularly Nosemonkey at Europhobia. The feeling I got, overall about how the UK'ers felt about the bombings was this: "Hey twats: We are the children of those who lived through the Blitzes and we grew up with the IRA! Is that the best you got?" Despite the circumstances, such resolution made me smile. Some folks chose this moment to declare their hate of all things Muslim. I lump them in the same category with Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and their disgusting ilk, who became opportunistic weasels the very day after 9/11 to take the side of the terrorists and say it was our own fault because the US tolerated independent women and a platform for homosexuals. Falwell, Robertson, the haters, and the extremists are all lumps in the same stew. I'm an American: My wife is an American Indian, whose best friend is a goofball Muslim (she'd be a goofball regardless of her religion - its just her personality! Who says Muslim women are humorless?); My Doctor - who has been helping me through a difficult period these past few months - is from Pakistan. I'm also Irish on my Pop's side, and I know what its like to lose a British girlfriend's affection because some scumbag Irish terrorists broke a truce on February, 1995 and my last name is McMullen. In short, pain and anger are like weed tendrils that will spread anywhere and everywhere if not stopped by reason. So outsiders on British blogs trying to drum up support for attacks on mosques are getting short shrift on most of the UK sites I've seen and for good reason. The Brits never nuked Ireland for a small handful of terrorists and their actions. They never attacked the U.S. for a small handful of Americans, who staunchly supported Irish terrorists with their money, lo these past many decades. I'm an American, and historically my country's worst enemy - as the recent event of July 4th just showed - is now my country's best friend. We become the best friend of our worst enemies, from England to Japan. And we will close ranks and stand beside our friends. All the "mob rule" morons can go screw themselves. From Edo
Van Belkom Published by Tundra Books in 2004, WOLF PACK tells the story of four teenage werewolves who are taken in and raised as humans by a forest ranger living deep in the heart of the British Columbia. It is the third time van Belkom has won an Aurora Award, taking the prize in 2003 for editing the young adult anthology BE VERY AFRAID!, and in 1999 for the short story "Hockey's Night in Canada." With the win, van Belkom has now claimed Auroras in all three of the English professional categories. "I'm thrilled to win the award for a work for younger readers," said van Belkom upon accepting the honor in Calgary. "And it's nice that a novel set in Canada and published by a Canadian publisher is honored with Canada's top prize for speculative writing." The Aurora Awards are voted on by open ballot by Canadian science fiction, fantasy and horror readers and fans. Rue Morgue Magazine WHAT IS IT? is the first in a trilogy of surreal, inter-connected features directed, edited and financed by the eccentric actor. Told almost entirely with a cast of Down 's syndrome actors and including the voice of Faruza Balk, WHAT IS IT? is about "the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are salt, snails, a pipe and how to get home, as tormented by a hubristic inner psyche." Glover's BIG SLIDE SHOW! is a multimedia presentation/performance mounted using images from the actor's hardcover art-books, audio sampling from his album THE BIG PROBLEM and text read aloud. Victorian precedents are recalled with the creepy, sinewy etchings and expository titles modified through Glover's own disturbing aesthetic. The San Francisco Examiner describes WHAT IS IT? as "Fellini or Lynch on psychedelics - wildly creative and completely twisted." Crispin Glover will be joined at the RUE MORGUE FESTIVAL OF FEAR by Guest of Honour CLIVE BARKER (HELLRAISER, CANDYMAN, NIGHTBREED, BOOKS OF BLOOD, COLD HEART CANYON, ABARAT), and fellow special guests ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK (a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson), LINDA BLAIR (THE EXORCIST), TONY TODD (CANDYMAN, FINAL DESTINATION), ELIJAH WOOD (THE FACULTY, THE LORD OF THE RINGS), splatter superstar GUNNAR HANSEN (the original Leatherface from THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE '74), cult horror icon KEN FOREE (DAWN OF THE DEAD, FROM BEYOND, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS), and many, many more. Visit rue-morgue.com/festival.php for the full Guest List. RUE MORGUE FESTIVAL OF FEAR Canadian National Horror Expo 2005 will also feature the Toronto premiere of 2001 Maniacs starring Robert Englund (Saturday Aug. 27 at 9 pm at the Bloor Cinema), the premier performance of James Fisher and Rod Gudino's NIGHTMARE PICTURE THEATRE (Sunday Aug 28 7:30 pm at the Rue Morgue House of Horror - 2926 Dundas St. West), the legendary NASH THE SLASH performing live to Robert Wiene's classic Expressionist masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Friday Aug 26 at 10 pm at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre), and psychobilly gods THE MATADORS performing The Devil's Music (Saturday Aug 27, midnight at the Vatikan - 1032 Queen St. West). All this and exclusive parties, intimate and interactives, horror film screenings, autograph sessions, dealer tables and tons more! RUE MORGUE is one of the leading genre magazines in the world, and hosts a series of offshoot events, including Rue Morgue Presents CineMacabre (a monthly screening of new, rare, classic and cult horror films in Toronto's legendary Bloor Cinema), Rue Morgue House of Horror Double Bills (weekly films at the magazine's own movie theatre) and its ever popular Halloween Bash in late October. RUE MORGUE has also developed its in-house initiatives Rue Morgue Radio and Rue Morgue Records. DANILOFF PRODUCTIONS INC. has been respected in the Toronto film community for more than 7 years. They are responsible for various film related events, promotions and publicity campaigns via The Bloor Cinema, The Canadian Film Centre, The Drake Hotel, The Church at Berkeley, Rue Morgue Magazine, Robert Taicher Productions and Stuart Samuels to name a few. Passarella This year's San Diego Comic-Con is knocking it out of the park! Their programming schedule includes: Thursday, July 14: Advance screening of the upcoming animated Philip K. Then it's a sneak peek at the new Lord of the Rings documentary: RINGERS: Lord of the Fans. Plus the Masters of Horror panel featuring some of the top directors in horror and suspense films, like John Landis, Roger Corman and Mick Garris. SCI FI channel's first panel of the weekend features Battlestar Galactica with Academy Award nominee Mary McDonnell, among others. And following that, it's the new Fox fall show, BONES, with David Borenaz LIVE! Saturday, July 16 And it starts off with a bang...Bryan Singer (APT PUPIL, XMEN) and SUPERMAN RETURNS! Then it's Charlize Theron for AEON FLUX, live on the Hall H stage. Kevin Smith and DONNIE DARKO director Richard Kelly announce an amazing new project. Josh Whedon is back with a look at SERENITY and he's bringing NINE of his closest associates from the film with him (but don't expect to see co-creator, Tim Minear, there. Go to Tim's website for why). Sony previews a whole mess of new films with Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman (UNDERWORLD) back for UNDERWORLD: Evolution, and a visit from the set of GHOST RIDER, plus the director, Mark Steven Johnson, all in person. After Sony, it's the proverbial 8000-pound gorilla: KING KONG! And closing out the day in Hall H, Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) performs a 20-minute set LIVE on stage! Sunday, July 17 For most conventions, this is the slow day - but not at Comic-Con! In Hall H, it's Trailer Park, followed by an exclusive look at the new suspense film CRY WOLF. Then, at 11:30 The Rock (THE SCORPION KING) takes center stage with Karl Urban (LORD OF THE RINGS, GHOST SHIP) to talk DOOM, based on the mega-popular videogame (One of my favorite all time games turned into one of my least anticipated films. Oh its up there all right, just behind the next Madonna flick. Check out the suffering production at Kotaku. -Feo). And Disney offers a close look at their eagerly-anticipated NARNIA. Upstairs, it's 2 great new TV shows in room 20: Threshold, an amazing new SF show on CBS, created by David Goyer and Brannon Braga and starring Carla Gugino, Brent Spiner, Charles S. Dutton and Peter Dinklage AND THEY'LL ALL GOING TO BE HERE. Then it's the science fiction hit The 4400, including a screening of the episode that airs Sunday night, July 17 along with stars Joel Gretsch and Jacqueline McKenzie, among others in attendance. And these are just SOME of the events! And don't forget, Feo Amante (that's me!) will be there to enjoy the convention and autograph copies of Robert Steven Rhine's SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL. The new graphic novel collection debuts at Comic-Con. Check out San Diego Comic-Con for more information. Columnist and Virginia lawyer, Douglas Kern, is a political commentator and a comic book and horror fanboy at heart. We've mentioned him before on these pages and it looks like we'll mention him again. Take today for example. Kern writes an article explaining the seeming dichotomy of a man of law who takes the law into his own hands in order to preserve it. Though the regular stuff of comic book superheros, the logic flies into the face of a real world rule of law. That is, until Kern explains just how the rule of law works in society. Pretty soon, even Plastic Man will start to look normal! Read Douglas Kern's WAY OF THE SUPERHERO. HAPPY
